My entry for the *theluminarium's pack "Prismatic".

I would love to tell you technical stuff on this image but I have it on my main PC that is still on its way to Sweden :) I will update it when I got my PC. I'll post tech stuff and add a print version, cause the original is huge!

I predict some comments like "this looks pretty much similar to hubble's photo of NGC....galaxy!"....

Well....THANK YOU, cause I WAS goin for realism! :P
But - no, I haven't use any hubble photo as a base for this, although I've used some star photos of the starry sky to add a little noisyness to the final picture.

If you still think it's a rip and bla bla, I don't care :)

1024x768 and 1280x1024 are a bit cropped versions

If it weren't submitted by you, I would accuse it of another NASA photo rip  but I belive you, and I thought of the whirlpool galaxy straight away :D I can see that even though the "jellyfish" deviation was my favourite out of yours, that this one probably took the most time. Did you use any textures or fractals at all :?

It feels like a bit more red could have been used in the galaxy swirls so the red starlike things wouldn't be quite as out of place as they feel.

I love the stars and how they look, because i can never get that same look to any stars i make.

Whirlpool galaxy is like the only normal galaxy picture out there. And I've used it as a ref to make mine look as much realistic as possible :)

No fractals, because I'm not very familiar with Apophysis. But I've used tons of clouds photos to get those brown dusty things and some textures :) But actually its pretty simple when you know how to do galaxies. You just need to spend some time to get the base layers corret so you see a nice realistic color and then you just start to build on top of them :)

But I'm really proud of those brown dust things :D They turned out great, imo.

Btw, if I still remember it the right way it took me about 2 days to make it. I was really high on that pack, cause I was making works like hell :D

True that, it's the only galaxy photo I've seen where you are looking straight at it's to (or bottom, there's no up or down in space lol) all the other's are a bit side-on (which is also cool, especially when you see the band of dust clouds passing in front of the bright areas) Speaking of which - I had no idea that cloud-photo's were used to make those dusty bits, so you manipulate dthem well ;) As for fractals, well I guess I asked because ~synax444 makes equally impressive galaxies with those :)

Oh what the heck, I'll fave this anyway :XD: I've been cheap in that department, I think this pack has forced you to do some of your best works

Photorealism here man, this is absolutely stunning. To be honest, the main thing that makes me stop halfway through a galaxy project in frustration was because I couldn't properly do those brown dusty things :P

Consider a tutorial?

Oooo pretty, Its about time that space man was used again, he seems to like staring at galaxies

Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It's not a thing to be waited for - it is a thing to be achieved.

I actually have made an action that makes anything that has a similar pattern into those things :D But if I ever gonna release it it would probably be for the Lum team members only, sorry, policy :)

Anyway, the key here is to just find the pattern in a texture or a photo and then use the blending settings to get it right ;)
