Genesis aka Spaceballs by Pr3t3nd3r Genesis aka Spaceballs by Pr3t3nd3r
MUST READ:
Have you ever heard of panspermia? A hypothesis saying that life on Earth originated from the so called "seeds of life" that came with asteroids and comets.

And what if there are places in Space, some sort of hives, where life forms in asteroid-like eggs! Unbelievable? Well, my imagination managed to paint that and then my hands followed :)

Don't need to read: :D
I got this idea when I was thinking of a submission for =theluminarium's pack Genesis, but back then I couldn't get the whole picture in my mind and I didn't know how to paint all that. It took me a while and only with a combined power of 5 of my works that I have dropped (I scavenged them for the best moments), I finally managed to put it to life :) I'm more than proud with it.

For those who thinks asteroid-eggs are too much, I will upload a version with just space. But bare in mind, that I will take any comment like:"I like version with no eggs more" as a personal insult and curse you for eternity! :D

P.S. Although I can tell them any time, but I want to thank ^taenaron and ^gucken for starting this contest. I don't know if I win, even if not, I've got a great please making on a sub for it. Thank you guys! :)

Tech stuff:
size - 4000х2500px
time - 2 days, but all had all planets and most of nebs
tools - photoshop cs4, vue 7 for asteroids, wacom intuos 3 for nebs.

I know you said you did not want to hear anyone say they liked the one without the eggs better, but I will put this out as an artist and designer:

I think that both compostitions work well, but the one without the spaceballs is less cluttered and has a greater solidity to it. I will say, though, that there is a strong sense of being in the middle of something much greater and more important than the self.

Great work though. I admire you amazing abilities in a realm I can only dream of.

Lightning for that piece is really outstanding!
And whether the theory is right or wrong, it's still interesting (will have to read about that).
Good job :)

I'v eheard of that theory but I'm afraid I don't believe it, no way life could survive for millions of years in space with no supply of food warmth or even oxygen even with the protection of asteroid cocoons...kinda dissapointing really :dohtwo:

Awesome respresentation of the concept, reminds me of a commission I got that feel through that involved embryo's and space. I worked well over a month of the damn thing since the customer was so picky, then I told him I wanted $200 instead of the $50 I said first, thinking it was going to be fast and simple (which is still cheap for all that time) needless to say - the customer shot through...good riddance :p

Your ignorance doesn't refute a theory, I'm afraid. Panspermia is just as valid as any other hypothesis.

FUCK! That is bad ass, if you wanted crit-I'd say the red hot glow of the asteroids takes a little away from their depth, it seems to interfere with the shaddow because of its brightness, and makes them look flat. I'm not sure what you would have to do to improve though :| Perhaps the red glow is a LITTLE bit too bright.

Just some advice :) and thats really critical nitpicking, either way, epic piece dude.

When I was painting them I kept in my head an image of a thin layer egg with a strong light source behind it. That is my vision of it :D I wanted to go for bright red to contrast it with the dead/blue space around it :) And to compensate for lots of blue too )))

But I guess, you're right that it may be too bright, well, let's pr3t3nd that lifeforms "glow" on their own ;)

And thanks mate :)

FANTASTIC! And yes, I am quite familiar with the "Panspermia" hypothesis... But then, like most "how did life begin" lines of thought, it's more belief, than science... but also, just as plausible as many others (if not more so)

It still doesn't answer the main question - how does life appeared :) But I used it mainly to bring the viewer to my concept ;) Thanks!

Well, for every origin theory, or belief, there is always the nagging question of "but.... what was before that?"

Panspernian hypothesis for example... if the seeds were in an asteroid, or a comet, how did it get there?

Big bang theory (again, even that's a hypothesis at this stage, as it can't be tested to the point of elevating it to theory through direct observation... only speculated mathematically) there is the question that, if all mater in the universe started as a singularity... where did the singularity come from? (I always liked the "multiple Big Bang" idea myself... more than one singularity, and when the one went off, it started a chain reaction... though, I'm told there is a race in the Viltvodle VI sector of the Galaxy, called the Jatravartids who believe that the Universe was sneezed out by a being called the Great Green Arkleseizure... which is funny, because the Ancient Egyptians also had a "Cosmic Sneeze" story involving the constellation known today as "Aquarius")

Even the idea of a creationist's point of view... asks about beginnings (even if it is forbidden... I remember a child being told that they weren't allowed to ask such questions like "where did god come from?" by the preacher...)

Humans are always wondering, and always asking... always with the questions... the only creatures on this planet that will wonder, and worry about things that don't pertain to their immediate survival, just because they are curious!

Wet paint? Better touch it and make sure... (though... you tell people there are a billion stars in the night sky, and they take your word... interesting that, eh?)
